Légion d'honneur medal restoration, half size.

With the fall of the First Empire, King Louis XVIII wished to preserve the Legion of Honour, which enjoyed considerable prestige.

It was, of course, unthinkable to keep the symbols of the Empire on the medal.
The emperor's profile was therefore replaced by that of Henry IV, a king who sought consensus and desired the happiness of his subjects—including the tradition of a chicken in the pot every Sunday.
The eagle gave way to the three fleurs-de-lis, symbols of royalty. These were the major changes to the medal; the rest were in the details.

The medal we are offering is half size. The red ribbon is old, but not original.

It has undergone repairs with white enamel. The centers are in excellent condition.
Enlarging the image (the medal's diameter is 27 mm) automatically highlights all the restoration marks, which are not as obvious when you have the object in hand; the photo does not enhance the good overall impression one gets at first glance.
