Sabre briquet, dated avril 1816
Engravings on guard, blade and metal of scabbard .
Engraved "Manuf Rle du Klingenthal, Avril 1816"....10 monthes after Waterloo. Fits for Napoleonic re enactment...just don't look at inscription indicating Rle for Royale!
This was kind of the "Swiss Army knife" of the Empire soldier. It was used to chop wood as well as to cut up food. Although they were absolutely useless when fighting against cavalry sabres, infantrymen would nevertheless hold on to it. Complies with contemporary rules.
