Coppergate helmet -7th Century
Often referred to as the Coppergate helmet because of it being discovered in the Coppergate area of York, UK, it is more commonly called the York helmet. Angle-Saxon in design, it was found by accident during construction of the Coppergate Shopping Centre in 1982. This archaeological site revealed many things and gave us a new glimpse into 8th century Viking life. The JORVIK Viking Centre now occupies the Coppergate site. Our version is made from 2mm Steel with leather inserts and chin straps. Decorated with historically correct copper alloy pieces complete with their correct Latin inscriptions. Aventail is made of round riveted mail.
