Originating in Italy during the first part of the 15th century, the popularity of the celata (sallet in Germany) caused it to quickly spread over Western Europe in only a few decades. This particular helmet is based on an origin that was made sometime around the year 1440 and is now displayed in the European Armour Gallery of the Wallace Collection, London, UK. Made from two welded halves of 2mm steel, this helmet features a polished surface, adjustable spider style leather liner riveted to the helmet, and chinstrap fitted with a period buckle.
