This uniform was created at the request of a recently deceased client who had assembled a private mini-museum of uniforms from rarely documented corps—uniforms we tailored specifically to his measurements (1.75 m tall, with a 104 cm chest and a 90 cm waist).
We purchased his entire collection from his heir and are gradually offering the items for sale. The resumption of hostilities in 1803, following the Peace of Amiens, saw the re-establishment of the coastal artillery corps (*canonniers garde-côte*), a move formalized by the decree of 8 Prairial Year XI (May 28, 1803):
"The uniform of the coastal artillerymen shall consist of a coat of 'national blue' wool cloth with blue cuffs; sea-green lapels and turnbacks; a lining of serge and white *cadis* (coarse wool); a sea-green knitted vest and breeches; a hat edged with black wool; and yellow metal buttons stamped with an anchor, a cannon, and a musket.
Distinctions of rank for officers and non-commissioned officers shall be the same as those in the infantry.
Armament for each sergeant or gunner shall consist of a musket, a bayonet, and a cartridge box; all of the same shape, width, length, and proportions as those used by the infantry."
