Same cut as that of the hussars at this period. Here is an example, at the rank of major, which has the particularity of mixing the colors gold and silver in its stripes .
Our client, for whom we have already made several uniforms, wanted to recreate only the pelisse, the waistcoat and the pants....and it is already very beautiful!

The light cavalry outfits of the 1st Empire are very famous...but those of the Second Empire do not lack style!

The trimmings come from an old stock, perhaps made during Second Empire.

Major was a very interestink rank, in which colours of braids were mixed.
If colours of buttons were gold, sabretache was silver or mixed silver/gold, same for epaulettes, same for braids as you can see.

Amazing waistcoat with 90 buttons on gold or silver froggings, sewed on a shiny cloth. A wonderfull sample of empire richness! We can add small thread on collar, around pockets and on the front. 3 or 5 buttons per rank of frog.
Back is usually tightened by one string.

More than 60 hours of work only for dolman, 500 m of braid....etc

Murat "uniform" in Tilsitt.

Made from painting of Jean Charles Tardieu (1765-1830):" Napoléon reçoit la reine de Prussse à Tilsitt" (museum of Versailles).
Quite an unusual uniform as Murat used to wear. Dolman cannot be closed, pelisse is replaced by a small cloak, belt is closed by a massive double buckle.
Our customer gave embroideries to do to a French embroider (except for sabretache), because we had really few time to make them.
All other parts are made in our atelier. Price (embroideries included) near 10 000 € for waistcoat, jackets, trousers, belt and sabretache.

The buttons are slightly rounded, they are stamped with the imperial eagle. The braid on the dolman is in fact a triple "soutache" specialy recreated on an old weaving loom, the gold and crimson squared cord has also been recreated specially for us.... and our canadian customer who might be the first one to wear this outfit in a long time (2 centuries!)

Tenue d'été d'officier de hussard fantaisie.

Copie d'un mannequin très connu du musée de l'Empéri.
Durant 15 ans nous avons eu régulièrement des demandes de clients pour reproduire cette tenue sans que le projet se concrétise.
Il faut dire que le modèle est tout à fait fantaisie, qu'il est importable par temps froid et que son entretien peut s'avérer problématique.
Voilà un uniforme qui n'a pas grand chose à voir avec les règlements de l'époque, et qui montre, une fois de plus, à quel point les officiers disposaient d'une grande latitude pour s'habiller sous l'Empire.
Pour son départ en retraite, Yves Guinhut a eu la très belle surprise de se voir offrir une copie de cette tenue réalisée par sa responsable d'atelier, Mme Brigitte Tremaudan.
Les boutons du gilet sont des boutons anciens dont le stock a été épuisé.
Si cette tenue devait être refaite il faudrait lui attribuer d'autres boutons....Mais c'est faisable.
La coiffure est assortie à la tenue.

Made for the wedding of a XXI th century hussar!
On paintings of Martinet, for instance, cuffs are sometimes brown and collar sometimes blue.
Our customer selected colours as he wanted but usual colours as on dolman from musée de l'Empéri are brown for dolman and pelisse, blue for cuffs of dolman, with black fur pelisse.

Copy of a complete uniform from Empéri's museum.
We changed some things as letters on ammunition pouch, we choose to replace them by an eagle which was more usual during empire. Lion buckles are also replaced by gorgonas, often used by officers.
We also added a "bonnet de police" and a pelisse.

Our customer had an ancestor who was horseman in 5th reg of chasseur à cheval of the line.
This uniform is well described, with many pictures in Nr 2 of "Soldats Napoléoniens".
We just replaced leather trousers by wool, nd yellow colour of belt by white as Martinet shows it on all paintings.

Once alle the standard colors had been used to identify membership in a regiment. There was no hesitation in choosing colors that might look surprising nowadays for a military uniform, namely pink!

Uniform for a weddind, officer 11th husar style

Martinet shows some hussars of 11 th reg with such a blue colour.
This is not so important wether it existed or not, because this uniform was made for a wedding.
We cut the fur in an old coat in white fox, and we could reduce the price this way, but this was a rare opportunity.

"Petite tenue de general de divison" jacket for cavalry

Not the most impressive type, but however shiny!
When in campaigns, marshalls did not appreciate to wear fragile and uncomfortable cloths, that were also excellent targets for "snippers".
So, they used to wear simplified uniforms.

Shirt Joachim, most prized shirt for napoleonic re enactors

Ideal fabrics for this shirt in white, can boil, fresh in summer, keep warmth in winter.
Caution, on a tight jacket, can be a bit too thick to feel comfortable, but extremely pleasant on camps....after the battle!

Shirt Morgane Empire

Cotton and linen shirt.
The shape of this shirt is not quite Empire but the fabric and the collar suit quite well if you want to wear it under a jacket.

Alright, it's not right to sale that kind of shirt for re-enactment but the shirt Morgane is made of a thin and fine fabric that takes very little space underneath the outfit.
What's more, the part that you can see (the collar) has the right cut.
So as long as you don't remove the jacket or the vest everything is alright.
And usually you don't take off your clothes on a battlefield (or during a ball).
At the bivouac you can put on an overall, much thicker.
