We originally tailored these breeches for one of the Emperor's ordonnance officers; such officers sometimes wore this style of breeches for the long-distance riding the Emperor required of them. However, our current "Emperor" never sent anyone on such long journeys, and these breeches never left the closet.
It is a pity, as they were crafted from a rare whipcord fabric—a very heavy weave still used in traditional hunting circles to make virtually indestructible riding breeches.
The fabric weighs 1,400 g/m, was woven in England nearly 20 years ago, and now sells for over €150 per meter. It is navy blue—slightly lighter than the "Imperial" blue typically used for officers' coats. This is not necessarily an issue, however, as breeches were not always replaced at the same time as coats, and color variations between the upper and lower parts of the uniform were quite possible... especially on campaign.
These breeches would be suitable for an ordonnance officer, or indeed for any officer—particularly in the cavalry—wearing a coat with "white" (silver-colored) buttons.
