This outfit was custom-made for a client according to his specifications and has never been worn—much like all the outfits created for this late client, who enjoyed commissioning unique pieces for the sheer pleasure of it but rarely actually wore them.
The cut is classic First Empire style, and the fabrics and trimmings match period designs... However, we have not been able to identify the specific regiment associated with this color scheme—bldrak marine and red wool with "white" buttons. Over 5,000 different uniforms were recorded during the First Empire; perhaps you will be able to link this dolman to a model that actually existed?
The waistband is lined with red leather, just as it was in the past; this feature was designed to provide lower-back support for cavalrymen during long rides.
PLEASE NOTE: The hem of the dolman reaches the navel. Since period breeches also rose to the navel, the shirt would not show between the jacket and the breeches.
For historical reenactment, you will need to wear breeches that sit higher than modern styles; if you wish to wear this jacket in everyday life, keep in mind that it is barely longer than a bolero.
Fits a chest measurement of 104 cm, a neck size of 40 cm, and an arm length (including the shoulder) of 68 cm.
