Fusilier du 66e régiment d'infanterie de Ligne en Guadeloupe. 1802-1808/1812. Mint!
All the uniforms were therefore made to his measurements.
For a height of approximately 175 cm, a chest size of 104 cm and a waist size of 90 cm.
See the interesting period engraving, made in 1807 by an Englishman. While the style is rather naive (the facings, for example, are disproportionate), it is interesting for several reasons.
Since half of the troops of the 66th Line Infantry Regiment had been blockaded by the British since 1802, and would remain so until 1809 (and even 1812 for some!), the fashions of the time had little influence on the uniforms of the soldiers of this regiment, half of whom were stationed in Guadeloupe. The cockades are of the revolutionary type, the coat cut is in the Directory style, and the powdered wig is worthy of the Ancien Régime.
Through its long overseas deployment, the 66th Line Infantry Regiment thus became a colonial troop before its time!
The other half of the 66th fought in numerous campaigns of the Empire, including in Spain, and therefore finished the Napoleonic Wars with completely different uniforms.
The price includes: Coat with epaulettes, waistcoat, bicorn hat, gaiters, bayonet girdle.
This uniform was made at the request of a recently deceased client who had assembled a small museum at home with poorly documented regimental uniforms, which we specially tailored to his measurements. We have just purchased all of his uniforms from his heir and will be gradually putting them up for sale.
