Genuine infantry saber briquet 1789-1792, with old scabbard
Described in tome III of "des sabres et des épées" of Michel Petard.
No 291 page 110.Typical hilt 12,5 cm high instead of 15.
No inscription as often during revolution.
Total length 81 cm, blade 68,5 cm.
This was kind of the "Swiss Army knife" of the Empire soldier. It was used to chop wood as well as to cut up food. Although they were absolutely useless when fighting against cavalry sabres, infantrymen would nevertheless hold on to it. Complies with contemporary rules.
