Gold cord trim (square-profile) attached by two decorative braids - 18 mm - Old French Manufacturing - Sold by the meter
A magnificent piece of passementerie (trim), though its original purpose remains unknown.
Width of the squares: 18 mm.
Each small square is stitched onto a length of soutache (braid) to create a chain-like effect. It could be used to trim a garment, worn directly as a belt, or the individual squares—which have generally held up better over time than the soutache itself—could be salvaged and repurposed.

This braid is therefore intended for the restoration of antique costumes, or for application on surfaces not subject to regular friction or strong tension.
