Flat-backed blade with a fuller, engraved with a long dedication; the proper name is difficult to read.
It was a nice gift to start the year!

The scabbard is heavily oxidized in the middle, but it has well protected the blade, which is in good condition.
A single ring, which is normal; in 1882, sabers went from two to one ring. It's all very consistent, in its original condition.
We haven't cleaned the guard or the blade; we leave it up to you to decide whether you want to keep this reminder of the past as is, or to polish it.
