Officier d'ordonnance de l'Empereur. Gorgeous uniform in red colour....that never existed.

  1. 2 700,00 €

    Out of stock

The price shown is for the jacket with its epaulette and aiguillette, together with the breeches and vest.
All in very good, almost unworn condition.

Ordinance officer outfits were green at the beginning of the Empire, some late illustrations, including some produced well after the end of the Empire, depict them as almost navy blue. In a book published by Éditions Quatuor, such an outfit is shown in red!
It is reproduced from a photo of a portrait of De Watteville, of Swiss origin, who was aide-de-camp to Marshal Lannes.
Red being the color of the Swiss, it seemed quite coherent, and what's more, we really wanted to believe it, because the result is superb.
If you want to be stopped every 2 meters for photo requests, this is the ideal outfit!
Problem! The original portrait has disappeared, burned a long time ago.
The reproduction of the painting was done after recoloring, choosing a color that is certainly very pleasant, but not the original color, and besides, on the recolored image, the ribbon of the Legion of Honor is purple.
So, avoid in re enactment, very nice for theater for instance.

Jacket for a waist circumference of 100 cm max, chest circumference 100 cm as well.
Trouser waist 100 cm.
The jacket is embroidered with alternating oak leaf, laurel and palm motifs. We have chosen eagles to decorate the lapels, although palm motifs would have been just as acceptable, according to various sources.
Epaulette trèfle on one side, "classical" one on the other side.
