In their quest for originality, the Marshals of the Empire vied with one another in creativity.
Berthier, in particular, chose red for his aides-de-camp—a color rarely used otherwise (it was the color worn by the British, nicknamed "lobsters" because of this distinctive feature). The uniform reproduced here is derived (with the exception of the rank) from the one shown on pages 70 and 71 of the book *Les Trésors de l'Empéri*.

The price shown is for the jacket alone, including *aiguillettes* and an epaulette.
As Chief of Staff of the armies, Berthier was able to outfit his aides-de-camp with lavish embroidery, making this uniform one of the most striking of the period.
