Sabre briquet, Empire type, made by Manufacture de VERSAILLES.
Engravings on guard. VERSAILLES and stamps AC (for Antoine Chapet) et JC (for Jean Casamajou) working in manufacture de Versailles from 1807 to 1815
New scabbard.
Some oxydization on blade. On back:" Manuf Imp le Klingenthal Coulaux freres". "Imp le" hard to read.
Total length 740 mm, blade 550 mm.
This was kind of the "Swiss Army knife" of the Empire soldier. It was used to chop wood as well as to cut up food. Although they were absolutely useless when fighting against cavalry sabres, infantrymen would nevertheless hold on to it. Complies with contemporary rules.
