Sabre briquet, Empire type, made by Manufacture de VERSAILLES.

Engravings on guard and blade, especially VERSAILLES, most prestigious supplier of the period.
New scabbard.
Blade with stamp of Claude Marion, inspectour from 12/12/1808 to 1811.

Total length 730 mm, blade 585 mm.

This was kind of the "Swiss Army knife" of the Empire soldier. It was used to chop wood as well as to cut up food. Although they were absolutely useless when fighting against cavalry sabres, infantrymen would nevertheless hold on to it. Complies with contemporary rules.
