Sabre briquet, Empire type, made by Manufacture de VERSAILLES. Guard stamped during Empire period, blade of beginning of restoration.

Engravings on guard. "VERSAILLES" and stamps as C in an oval, topped with a star, attributed to Nicolas Cherrer, inspector from 6th june 1807 till end of 1809
New scabbard.
Blade with numerous stamps, probably changed at the beginning of restoration.

Total length 740 mm, blade 595 mm.

This was kind of the "Swiss Army knife" of the Empire soldier. It was used to chop wood as well as to cut up food. Although they were absolutely useless when fighting against cavalry sabres, infantrymen would nevertheless hold on to it. Complies with contemporary rules.
